Just below the South Pindos mountain masses, which separate Epirus from Thessaly, the two fascinating villages are hooked. The Kalarrites at an altitude of 1,200m and Sirrako at an altitude of 1,150m, just above the steep gorge that the Kalarritikos River through are declared traditional settlements, so the cars are excluded.
The two Vlachian villages are just a few kilometers from the Monastery of Kipina, one of the most beautiful monasteries of Epirus that is worth visiting. The monastery was built in 1912 on the hollow of a vertical rock.
Another monument worth visiting, which is located within the settlement of Kalarites is the 15th-century church of Saint Nikolaos, the patron Saint of Kalarites. Both Kalarrites and Sirrako stand out for their wonderful traditional architecture. The gray roofs of the gray-stone houses and the stone-paved paths, as well as the grand mansion houses, reveal the flourishing of the past. The two villages are only 1,500m apart from each other and connected by a footpath.
